Following a system-wide study completed by Brinkley Sargent previously , DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit) decided to convert the historic Monroe Shops building into their new police headquarters. Monroe Shops was built in 1914 as a facility for the Texas Electric Railway to repair, maintain, and build Interurban trolley cars. The renovation, which has achieved LEED Platinum certification, brought the building back to life after a long hiatus, while adding sustainable value to the neighborhood, and returning Monroe Shops to its original transportation mission.
